Riding on the bullish trends of the LED market with a forecasted 8.1% yearly increase, Macroblock, the LED driver IC provider expects quarterly growth to reach over 30% in the second quarter.
The global coronavirus pandemic has disturbed social gatherings. Sizeable events are called off and cinemas shut down. Consumers staying indoors has hugely affected the outdoor banner displaying market, and demand for LED driver IC plunged as a result.
Since entering 2021, social activities are gradually restored as countries issues vaccines to protect people, allowing large events to be held again, outdoor banners to regain momentum, and cinemas to reopen.
Demand for LED driver IC is consequently rebounding and price hikes ranging from 10 to 30% depending on the production line are imposed.
According to TrendForce, the global LED market revenue will likely undergo a corresponding recovery this year, reaching US$16.53 billion, an 8.1% yearly increase. Most of this increase can be attributed to four major categories, including automotive LED, Mini/Micro LED, video wall LED, and UV/IR LED.
According to supply chain sources, Macroblock’s Mini LED backlighting modules adopted in laptops have begun shipping in smaller volume, with more opportunities in cooperation with global TV and tablet brands to come, further pushing forward a new growth trajectory.
