Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT), the cloud business of Quanta Computer Inc, announced OmniRAN, its virtualised radio access network (vRAN) solution. The solution has been developed with Intel and Radisys, using the former’s cloud-enabled wireless access virtual network functions reference implementation, IntelFlexRAN, and the latter’s Connect 5G RAN software, a disaggregated RAN architecture.
The cloud-native vRAN is based on 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors running on QCT EGX63IS-1U servers. Intel’s vRAN dedicated accelerator, ACC100, plays an essential part of the integrated solution, in addition to Intel’s 5G optimised network adapter codenamed Westport Channel. Their combination on the QCT servers extends distributed unit (DU) capabilities to support multi-cell and multi-RRU 5G scenarios.
OmniRAN, based on OpenRAN, is designed to minimise the challenges of deploying infrastructure, as operators increasingly seek open reference architecture solutions to speed up 5G network deployments. OmniRAN has already been successfully deployed in various smart manufacturing scenarios, such as high-resolution streaming for quality control, AR goggles for maintenance and repair, and autonomous guided vehicles (AGV) for equipment transport. Furthermore, OmniRAN enables a wider coverage and enhanced mobility, alongside greater scalability and deployment flexibility.
